Community Needs and Special Grants

Community Needs and Special Grants are offered once a year and are intended to support one-time, short-term projects that address current community issues with the goal of positively impacting the community served by Northern Berkshire United Way. The committee takes into account the unique assets and needs in Northern Berkshire and evaluates all applications with the available funding each year.

The projects supported through this special grant must provide safety net services for low to moderate-income populations, and support a diverse, inclusive population. Projects that have not been previously funded are given priority.

Applicants may request funding up to $1,500 and do not need to be member agencies of Northern Berkshire United Way but must be designated by the IRS as a charitable organization.

2025 applications opened in March and the following organizations received funding:

  • BART Charter School

  • Berkshire Family YMCA

  • Berkshire Nursing Families

  • Remedy Hall, Inc.

  • ROOTS Teen Center

  • Youth Center Inc.

The application to apply for 2026 funding will be posted again in March. You can contact Emily Conley, Administrative and Outreach Associate at econley@nbunitedway.org or by phone at: 413-663-9062 for more information on the application process.
